The Films
Little Dreamer
Director: Lauren Hogan
Synopsis: A recent high school grad spends her last day before moving miles from home rekindling the dreams of her childhood through the magic of a cherished astronaut helmet.
Change The Name
Director: cai thomas
Synopsis: An intimate portrayal of Black youth organizing on the west side of Chicago, Change The Name follows a group of 5th graders from Village Leadership Academy as they embark on a campaign to rename Stephen A. Douglas Park after freedom fighters Anna Murray and Frederick Douglass. Over the course of the three-year grassroots campaign, the students tackle bureaucratic Chicago Park District systems, underestimations of their capacity to make real change as well as a pandemic and global uprising.
Blue Room
Director: Ahlaam Delange
Synopsis: Syd is visited by a memory of a friend.
CHAOS
Director: Kin Marie
Synopsis: "CHAOS" centers the life of Young Jasmine, a high school junior grappling with the complexities of love, identity, and societal pressures such as colorism, fat-phobia and desirability politics at a young age. The video is divided into two distinct parts: reality is the short film aspect and the dream sequence is the actual music video. "CHAOS" is a powerful music video that tells a story of resilience, self-discovery, and the triumph of love over adversity, using surreal and symbolic imagery to convey its message.
Adullam
Director: Regina Hoyles
Synopsis: Everybody on the block knows Rasheeda. On a typical day in the Chicago Southland, she bumps into her close friend Femi at the park, checks out the newest dance craze, and chills with friends at your usual kickback. But while Rasheeda revels in Black joy, she also comes to terms with her reality, unsure if who she is will ever truly be accepted.
Contagious Swagger
Director: Calvin Callins Jr.
Synopsis: Jeffrey, a young Black man, is dating Mia, a young Asian woman. Now that Jeffery and Mia have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a dinner date with her parents. When Jeffery and Mia arrive at the parents’ home, Jeffery is a bit uneasy. He’s nervous if they’ll accept him. Mia believes he’s overreacting and doesn’t think their different ethnic identities will matter to her parents.
